Sapporo Convention Center: Delivering "success and inspiration"

Sapporo Convention Center, designed under the concept of “Connecting Hearts, Resonating Together” serves as the core convention facility in Sapporo, a city that harmonizes rich natural surroundings with international urban functions. Since its opening in 2003, the Center has actively worked to attract and facilitate a wide range of MICE*1 events, including international conferences, domestic academic meetings, exhibitions, events, and incentive programs. The Center’s spacious, sunlit entrance evokes the lush natural beauty of Hokkaido. With approximately 20,000 square meters of total floor space, the facility offers generous public spaces.

Global Standards in Safety and Sustainability

Sapporo Convention Center has achieved LEED O+M (Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance) *2 Gold certification, a globally recognized standard for evaluating building environmental performance and sustainable operations. It is the first existing MICE facility in Japan to receive this distinction. By meeting a wide range of criteria—including energy efficiency, waste reduction, water resource management, and indoor environmental quality—the Center meets global sustainability standards.

In addition, the Center is actively advancing initiatives to reduce its environmental impact and contribute to a sustainable society. These efforts include the local generation and consumption of renewable energy, the installation of solar power systems, and the adoption of 100% renewable electricity.

Furthermore, Sapporo Convention Center has obtained GBAC STAR™ certification*3, based on the world’s highest standards for infection prevention, cleaning, disinfection, and risk management. This certification verifies that the facility is operated in accordance with internationally recognized protocols, ensuring a safe and reliable environment for all MICE organizers and participants. Through these efforts, the Center strongly supports the seamless delivery of MICE events with both safety and reliability.

Sapporo Convention Center is an international convention facility that meets global standards in both sustainability and safety. For event organizers, it provides not only peace of mind to participants but also the opportunity to deliver environmentally responsible MICE events, thereby enhancing brand strength and global reputation.

“MICE” is a collective term formed from the initials of Meeting (corporate meetings), Incentive (incentive and training travel), Convention (international conferences organized by global bodies, associations, and academic societies), and Exhibition/Event (trade fairs, exhibitions, and events). It refers to business events that are expected to attract large numbers of participants.

LEED certification is an environmental performance rating system for buildings and site development, developed and administered by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).It is one of the world’s leading green building certification programs, evaluating advanced efforts that promote sustainability—including energy efficiency, environmental responsibility, and high-performance building practices. LEED recognizes buildings that demonstrate excellence in both design and operational sustainability.

GBAC STAR™ is an international accreditation program administered by the Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC), a division of the worldwide cleaning industry association ISSA (International Sanitary Supply Association). This certification establishes operational standards for facilities that implement rigorous protocols for cleaning, disinfection, and infectious disease prevention.
